Beauty is found where we allow the light to get in; you can live life with the world's problems on your shoulders or see the ordinary in an extraordinary way. In college, I traveled to Aix-en-Provence, France were I began to explore my own unique style of painting. We would hike around the countryside, looking for a motif in the landscape that captured our attention. Often it was about seeing how the light fell on the back of a building or the shape created by a hose cast aside.
While working on my masters of art history, I searched for the stories told by artists about their own journey and culture. Their artwork was the light that needed to be seen by the viewer. Similarly as an art educator, I hope to provide students and other artists with the tools to create their own stories. We all have a light within and can use guidance in expressing it. This passion of revealing the light from within now drives my own artwork, as I look to combine colors, shapes, figures, and memories for others to notice. |
